Philosophy Club

"To teach how to live without certainty, and yet without being paralyzed by hesitation, is perhaps the chief thing that philosophy, in our age, can still do for those who study it." — Bertrand Russell, from the Introduction to The History of Western Philosophy
The purpose of philosophy is to illuminate and elucidate truth. We believe that everyone is a philosopher--that philosophy is not a learned discipline so much as an attitude, even a way of life. The philosopher trains herself to think critically but not cynically, to think rationally but not robotically; she fights dogma and champions truth.

The mission of the Philosophy Club is to provide a non-academic forum for debate and discussion among students and teachers, and, in so doing, to encourage the sort of thinking that is amenable to uncertainty and ambiguity, that can entertain and weigh multiple truths.
