Master Class

The Master Class program is an opportunity for parents to participate in classes taught by members of our dynamic MA faculty. Each year, our aim is to bring you teachers from across the disciplines for an evening of learning and fun. After attending Master Class, past participants have been overheard saying that they would love to return to high school!

Our programs begin with an informal gathering at 6:45 p.m., followed by the class which runs from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Look for announcements of these events in This Week at MA (TW@MA). In the meantime, please mark your calendar with the dates of the year's planned Master Class evenings. Further exciting details will follow!

  • Winter Master Class: Human Development with Sanjai Moses

    Tuesday, February 12, 2019
    Hum Dev Room, Thacher 101/104
Why is HumDev required? Why is it so important? Have you ever wondered what your student is doing in HumDev class? Human Development is a requirement for all freshman and sophomore students, and provides students with the tools they will need for life at MA (see Handbook for full description). This MAster Class workshop is an opportunity for parents to learn about the Human Development curriculum from Sanjai Moses and Nicole Stanton who have been at MA for 13+ years. Human Development is a course that focuses on the social emotional aspects of high school life by applying the school’s mission — Think, Question, Create — to themselves and their community. In this workshop you will be guided through some of the activities and lessons that 9th and 10th graders participate in during the course. We will address topics like identity development, ethics, decision making, and healthy relationships and consent.  We will ask you, like we ask our students, to be ready to engage in critical conversations about some important and potentially challenging issues.  Our hope is that participants will leave with a better understanding of how students experience Human Development, and how it helps set the course for your student’s experience at MA.
This event is limited to the first 25 participants. Light refreshments will be provided.
