Youth Grants Board

The Marin Academy Youth Grants Board (MAYGB) was established in fall 2011 in partnership with Youth Leadership Institute and with the help of a grant from the Marin Community Foundation.

In the beginning of the year, Marin Academy students apply and are selected to sit on the board. Once selected, Marin Academy Youth Grants Board members meet biweekly during lunch for the duration of the school year. They participate in trainings to learn the skills it takes to be a grantmaker: problem solving, how to evaluate applications without bias, how to diplomatically engage with peers to reach an agreement, among other essential skills which both support Marin Academy's philosophy to engage with our community's well-being and fosters a interest in philanthropy.

Each year, MAYGB soliticits grant applications from Marin Academy students as well as youth led projects within the Bay Area during two cycles: one in the fall and one in the spring. Members of MAYGB evaluate all grant proposals, work collectively to decide which to fund and monitor the progress of the grants they choose to fund.

Who Are We?

We are a high school, student-run philanthropic organization that strives to better the Bay Area community through funding youth-led service projects.

Mission Statement

To enable, inspire, and support service and leadership in Bay Area youth!

"The leadership role the position of a board member offers is amazing. The satisfaction of being able to provide opportunities for others to manifest their desire to assist the community is really life changing. The board gives us opportunities to expand knowledge and engage with peers in a positive atmosphere. We make the decisions to decide which project will make the most impact and create awareness within our community and that is a really good feeling." —2012 Youth Board Member
