Marin Academy MAS (Music After School) Program

General Information Winter 2017-2018:
In March 2015, we founded MAS (Music After School) at MA through the generous support of the Grant Martin Memorial Fund honoring Grant’s gifted musicianship. MAS continues to be sustained through the Tristan Witte ’14 Memorial Scholarship Fund, which honors Tristan’s creativity and talent as a musician and scholar. MAS at MA brings the excellence of our music program to a wider community of MA students and enhances our current offerings to include weekly private, duo, and small group lessons. These offerings allow students to hone their technique on their instrument or to learn a new instrument. The classes have a place for all students, from the beginner to the serious musician. We offer classes with high level teachers and the convenience to study music after school right here at MA.

Refund Policy:
Your advance payment for your session is your guarantee of a spot in a class but also insures that the class can run with the minimum number of students.  There is no “drop/add” period or trying out of classes.  Once your payment has been made there are no refunds.  The only exception is a medical leave from school.

Financial Aid:
Generous donations from the Tristan Witte ’14 Memorial Scholarship Fund provide financial aid for MAS lessons. Students on financial aid under 75% will be supplemented at the same rate as their financial aid. For example, a student receiving 50% financial aid will receive a 50% discount.  The fee for a student on financial aid at 75% or over is entirely covered.

In order to serve the greatest number of financial aid students we ask that students needing financial aid limit sign ups to one weekly class per session. If you have questions about financial aid please contact the MA financial aid office.
Facilities:
All classes and lessons will take place on campus primarily in MA music rooms.

Instruments:
Students are asked to bring their own instrument from home.  Drum and piano/keyboard students can use MA drums and pianos for class and practice.   If you do not have the instrument you want to study it may be possible to receive a loaner for the 8-week period.  On the sign-up form there will be a box to click if you need a loaner instrument.

How to Sign Up:
Click here to reserve your spot in a class. The sign-up period ends October 27.  You will receive an e-mail by October 30 letting you know if your class will run and how to move forward with payment.

Will all of the classes run?
Group classes require a minimum of 3 students to run.  We also have a maximum of 8 students for most group classes.  It is possible that your class may be full this time or may not have enough students to run.  There is a place on the sign up form to list second or third choice of class if your first choice isn’t available.  We will let you know the status of your class by e-mail by October 30.

Absences:
If your teacher has to cancel a class due to illness you will be notified and, if the teacher cannot arrange a mutually agreeable make-up lesson, refunded for that day. If you miss a class there is no refund.  For private lessons, your teacher may be able to arrange a make-up time for you but there is no guarantee.
