Belonging@MA

A Community Within a Community

This program offers a tight-knit community for students to find and foster belonging amongst peers and adults who share backgrounds historically underrepresented at independent schools. Aspects of identity might have been visibly underrepresented at an independent school or might have been historically silenced or unsafe to be visible. We openly welcome a conversation with any student or family about the program and/or your participation, and we will not question a student’s belonging in the program. Currently we have as a part of our cohort students who identify as BIPOC, first-generation, LGTBQIA+, and are on Tuition Assistance.

The cohort is led by Pilar Góngora, our Co-Director of Student Belonging and Family Liaison. We invite any student to express interest in the program by filling out the Belonging@MA form. A student can add their name to the roster by filling out the form, or by emailing Pilar Góngora. By filling out the form or asking to be added to the Belonging@MA roster, a student will receive additional information about the Belonging@MA program and the following signature components of the program:

  • August Belonging@MA Cohort Retreat

  • 1:1 Mentoring Conversations

  • Academic Workshops

  • Self Care Counseling 1:1 and Group Sessions

  • Belonging@MA Outings

  • Community Building and Celebratory Events (including cohort families)
