PLACEMENT DAY QUESTIONNAIRES AND AUDITIONS

Please complete the first questionnaire and any music/dance questionnaires no later than April 16th.

FAMILY QUESTIONNAIRE: Please fill out this short questionnaire no later than April 16th. If your child currently has a completed psychoeducational evaluation and is interested in receiving accommodations for placement testing, please send a copy of the evaluation for review to MA's Director of Learning Services, Rebecca Gustin, at rgustin@ma.org or mail to her attention. Please note that without this, any request for accommodations during Placement Day will be denied; receiving accommodations at a current school does NOT automatically qualify a student for accommodations at MA. Extended time testing will start at 8:00 and extend until 11:30.

CONTEMPORARY MUSIC QUESTIONNAIRE: All students interested in entering the Contemporary Music Program (which includes courses in Foundations, American Roots, World Music, Contemporary Music Seminar) need to participate in a live, group audition between 10:00 and 12:30 on Placement Day (potential to go later based on number of applicants). The details of that audition will be emailed to all students who are being considered for the contemporary music program. To move forward with this process, please complete the questionnaire through the link provided here. Also, please note that except for very rare cases (based on instrumentation, not experience level), all incoming freshmen and transfer sophomores in our Contemporary Music Program are placed into our required Foundations course.

CHAMBER MUSIC QUESTIONNAIRE: All students interested in entering the Chamber Music Program need to participate in a live audition between 10:00 am and noon on Placement Day. Please complete the chamber music questionnaire through the link provided here.

DANCE AUDITIONS: Dancers with intermediate to advanced training should attend the audition for Dance Company I/II. Auditions are on Placement Day (April 27) from 11am–noon in the Dance Studio, and you may complete the online registration through the link provided here. There is no audition necessary for registering for Hip Hop in the fall or Taiko in the spring. Additional information about the dance audition process can be found here.

INFORMATION ABOUT MATH AND WORLD LANGUAGE PLACEMENT TESTS: Our goal with placement testing is, along with information from current subject teachers, to place your child in the classes that will best reflect their current knowledge and skills while considering their existing knowledge gaps related to our curriculum. Placement exams are not a contest, a test of intelligence, or an evaluation of middle school programs. Instead, they are designed for accurate placement into math and world language courses that will best meet students where they are. If you would like to learn more about our math and world language placement exams, please see more here: Math Placement Information World Language Placement Information.

Again, we are very excited to have you join our community, and we are eager for your arrival. We encourage all of our newly enrolled students to attend Placement Day so we have the information needed to build the best schedule possible for each student. We do realize that some of you have conflicts that day that cannot be rescheduled. If this is the case, please contact Karen Jacobsen (kjacobsen@ma.org), our Registrar, and let her know which of the two make-up days (Tuesday, April 30, at 3:00 or Thursday, May 2, at 3:00) you would like to register for.

If you have any questions regarding Placement Day, please call us at (415) 482–3270.

We look forward to seeing you on Saturday, April 27!
