Ever since my children began their time at MA, I’ve been a highly involved and supportive parent of the MA community. I can say that getting involved has really been a great experience. I highly recommend jumping in quickly to volunteering and attending as many performances and events as possible because high school years seem to fly by!
I served on the Marin Academy Parent Association (MAPA) Executive Board for two years. I was also the co-parent representative for the junior class last year and had the opportunity to connect with so many from the MA community. This year, I’m one of several parent representatives for the senior class. As an effort to bring the community together, we’ve hosted a Bocce Party for two years for MA Celebrates, which is a fundraising auction to raise money for the school. We have truly enjoyed attending various MA events and showing our support during athletic games. It is such a great way to get to know the community.
Both of my children loved their MA experiences and, while my daughter, Cate ‘19, has graduated, my son Miles is currently in his senior year. Miles is a baseball player but also jumped at the opportunity to try a new sport as a freshman and continued playing basketball throughout his sophomore year. Miles has also enjoyed his experience as a member of the MA Music Program. With so much to offer, Miles has also found interest in computer science, math, and takes Mandarin as his language. As an advocate for inclusivity, Miles has enjoyed his time as a member of the Asian Student Union, the Investment Club, and co-founder of the Chess Club.
Our daughter Cate graduated in 2019. She is currently a junior at the University of Michigan.
Cate was a serious ballet dancer and was a strong member of the Marin Academy Dance Company (MADCO) for one year but then wanted to explore the visual arts offering at MA.
Cate was also accepted into the Marin Academy Research Collaborative (MARC) Program and had a strong interest in biology while at MA. With a love for science, Cate was the co-founder of the Science Club and leader in FOLKS, a group in the identity and equity program.
