Affording MA

At MA, we believe that diversity in all of its forms enhances the educational and social experiences for our students. We remain committed to providing our life-changing education to the Bay Area’s most dynamic students, regardless of their ability to pay.

School and Student Services (SSS) helps us process our requests for tuition assistance. Based on the financial information you provide, SSS gives us an estimated amount that your family can contribute to educational expenses. This helps our school make fair and objective tuition assistance decisions. To begin your financial aid application for the 2023-2024 school year, complete the Parents' Financial Statement (PFS) online (available beginning in October). The deadline to apply for Tuition Assistance through SSS is the same as the admission application: January 12, 2023.

The PFS is a comprehensive application that will take some time to complete. Please take the time you need and do not wait until the deadline to start. We recommend that you review the wide range of resource materials SSS has developed to help families with the financial aid process. These materials can be found under the Resources tab on the SSS website. In addition to the PFS, we require prior and current year taxes. 2021 taxes are due along with your PFS on January 12, 2023 and 2022 taxes are due February 15, 2023.

All information regarding financial assistance is kept strictly confidential during the application process, as well as during the four years a student attends Marin Academy. For more information on applying for Tuition Assistance, please see our Tuition Assistance Handbook, and feel free to reach out to Leslie Rojas, Tuition Assistance Coordinator.

The MA Promise

The MA Promise is a program that offers free tuition to admitted students whose family earns less than $100,000 per year (and have assets typical of this income range). And  while a family whose income exceeds $100,000 per year might not qualify for free tuition under MA Promise, the School will continue to meet 100% of demonstrated need for ALL admitted families who apply for tuition assistance.  Read more about MA Promise.

Tuition Assistance Scenarios

MA is committed to fully funding students' demonstrated financial needs. To provide you with a sense of how a family’s income, assets, and the number of children in tuition charging schools (among other various factors) are incorporated to determine tuition for each student, the following scenarios are examples of MA families who receive tuition assistance. There are two major factors taken into account: the family’s total assets and a percentage of the family’s total debt. Please keep in mind that every family’s situation is unique, and each application will be thoroughly assessed to determine final eligibility. For more information on how SSS calculates the data included in your application, please refer to Understanding Your Family Report on the SSS website.
