AI at Marin Academy

Future-Ready, Human-Centered

At Marin Academy, artificial intelligence presents a new context for living our mission.

Our call to “think, question, and create” grounds how we approach AI and our commitment to being Future-Ready, Human-Centered: integrating innovation with humanity so students can flourish today and shape the world ahead.

We see AI as a tool that can expand inquiry, creativity, communication, and problem-solving. We keep relationships, human judgment, reflection, and meaningful struggle at the center of learning.

Our approach favors curiosity over compliance and discernment over dependence. MA’s 5 Competencies equip students with the imagination, agency, durable skills and human capacities necessary to thrive in an AI-enabled world.

Our Approach

Marin Academy prepares students to exercise judgment about AI. Students should develop the ability to THINK, QUESTION, and CREATE:

  • with AI when it meaningfully supports inquiry, creativity, feedback, or problem-solving.
  • without AI when independent practice, memory, skill development, or productive struggle is essential.
  • about AI by examining its assumptions, limitations, biases, sources, impacts, and appropriate role.

A central question our faculty and students ask is not only whether AI can complete a task, but whether its use supports the learning the task is intended to develop. The tools will continue to change. Our goal is to develop students who can wield any tool, evaluate any system or output, and recognize the difference between outsourcing a task and developing a capacity.

This philosophy takes shape through our community's collective work. We are building in the open, together. We are sharing our questions, practices, and findings as we develop an approach that reflects Marin Academy.

Shaping AI at MA

Across classrooms, faculty learning, student leadership, and community experimentation, MA is building its approach to AI together. Our community is exploring where these tools add value, where they require caution, and how they can serve meaningful learning.

Responsible AI Use

MA approaches AI with curiosity and critical thinking, continually examining how it affects accuracy, privacy, human judgment, transparency, and the relationships at the heart of learning.

AI in Action at MA

From classrooms to community projects, MA is testing, questioning, and applying AI in ways that deepen learning, spark creativity, and strengthen human judgment.

Begin anywhere. Ask what the learning requires. Keep humanity at the center.
