Marin Academy's Theater Program presents its Fall production of The Arsonists by Max Frisch. This dark comedy, set in a city that is experiencing an arson epidemic, explores how the appeasement and failure to confront extremism leads to disaster. Gottlieb Biedermann, the successful CEO of the Follica Plus Hair Rejuvenator company, is persuaded through intimidation and guilt to allow two down-and-out drifters to spend the night in his attic. Though evidence mounts that his two guests are arsonists, Biedermann tries to avert any personal damage by befriending the strangers, hoping they'll move on without burning down his house. Observing everything is a Greek-style chorus of firefighters, commenting on the action, pleading with Biedermann to stop the imminent disaster. Hilarity and mayhem ensues as Biedermann and his wife Babette find themselves further and further ensnared in a dangerous web that, oblivious to their own complicity, they helped to weave. The Arsonists performs Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, November 4th, 5th, and 6th at 6:30 p.m. at the Marin Academy Performing Arts Center.
