Board of Trustees

We are grateful to our Trustees who give freely of their time and experience to help ensure MA is continually innovating while fulfilling its mission to students, families, and the community.

The Board plans for the future of the school and ensures that Marin Academy has financial and leadership resources to achieve its strategic plans. The Board is composed of representatives of the Marin Academy community and other community leaders who bring specific skills and perspectives to the deliberations involved in setting strategic policy and planning for Marin Academy. Board members do not serve to represent particular agendas or factions, nor does the Board have any involvement in the day-to-day operations of the School.

Paul Levitan, Board Chair

Paul and his wife, Lauren Cooks Levitan, are residents of Mill Valley and are the parents of Joshua ’25, Jonathan ’20, and Jacqueline ’16. Paul received his BA from Wesleyan University and his MBA from the Stanford GSB, where he served as Vice Chair of its Management Board. Paul has spent his career in the food business, leading his company, Galaxy Desserts, from inception to acquisition. He currently consults and advises entrepreneurial companies. Paul previously served on the Marin Academy Board from 2013-2020 and was a Trustee at Marin Horizon School.

Kevin Rees, Faculty

Kevin is a member of the Math Department and has taught courses from Advanced Algebra I through Advanced Topics in Calculus during his time at MA. Since his second year at MA, he has co-led a ninth-grade Minicourse, Exploring Marin, which involves students in hiking, kayaking, and surfing, while focusing on environmental service and the micro-climates and ecosystems of Marin County. Kevin has also served as the 9th-grade dean. He received a AB from Colgate University in Math and in History and an MS in Mathematical Sciences (with a focus in Statistics) from Clemson University. Before coming to Marin Academy, Kevin taught at the Hill School, the American School in London, and the International School in Luxembourg.

Kevin, his wife, who is a 4th-grade teacher, and their two children live in Novato. Kevin enjoys mountain and road biking, hiking, and surfing. In the summers, he and his family return to the Finger Lakes region of New York.

Florencia Parada

Florencia was born in El Salvador and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Communications from Jesuit’s Central American University (UCA) in San Salvador. She moved to Marin in 1998, and her daughter Francesca graduated from MA in 2017. Florencia has consistently been involved in community engagement for the past 20 years. In 2005 she was the “Volunteer of the Year” recipient for the Fairfax-San Anselmo Children’s Center. She was the Spanish MC for the State-wide Parent Voices “Stand for Children Day” in Sacramento from 07-09. She is an alumni of the San Rafael Leadership Institute sponsored by the Latino Chambers of Commerce, and was the recipient of the 2012-13 Martin Luther King Jr. Humanitarian Award from the Marin County Human Rights Commission for her advocacy and leadership work with low-income and immigrant families. Florencia is currently working at the Fairfax-San Anselmo Children's Center as the Family Services Manager.

Emily Brakebill

A native San Franciscan, Emily lives in San Francisco with her three kids, Benji, Sydney (Class of ’22) and Kelsey (Class of ’25). Emily is a Founding Partner, Head of Investor Relations and COO at HMI Capital where she has been from its inception in 2009. HMI is an investment management firm with a long-term perspective seeking to invest in the highest-quality growth businesses globally. Prior to HMI, Emily spent four years at a credit opportunity fund and previously held positions at other specialty finance, investment and technology businesses. Emily received an A.B. with highest honors from Stanford University and an MBA with distinction from Harvard Business School. Previously, Emily served for seven years on the National Board of Directors (including a three-year stint as Board Chair) for the non-profit Kesem.

Archana (Archie) Chattha

Archie and her husband, Vijay Chattha, enjoy a full, multi-generational home life in Novato and are the parents of Amrik ’25, Taj, and Jaia. Archie received her degree from the University of Southern California, and she continues her involvement through collaborations with the Annenberg School of Communications and Journalism. Archie started her career at Sony in family entertainment and is currently a partner at VSC, catalyzing founders, ideas, and investments. She is a community organizer, hosts several hallmark cultural events across the Bay Area, and also remains active with the V Foundation for Cancer Research and the National League of Young Men. When not in Marin, find her waving peace signs in the fields of Healdsburg or shakas on the shores of Hawaii.

Wyeth Goodenough

Wyeth is the Chief Customer Officer at Ironclad, a software company based in San Francisco. Prior to Ironclad, he spent seven years at Salesforce as a Vice President of Customer Success and Strategic Technology Partnerships. Wyeth holds a BA in Industrial Engineering from Northwestern University and an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management. He resides in Ross, California, with his wife, Sarah Rafanelli, and his sporty daughters, Sadie ‘26, Reese, and Ellis. Sadie is a very happy three-sport athlete at Marin Academy, competing in Cross Country, Soccer, and Lacrosse. When not at work or spending time with his family, Wyeth enjoys running, mountain biking, golf, tennis, and pretty much anything outside. He grew up in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and attended the Albuquerque Academy.

Ed McDermott

Ed is the Managing Partner of Spring Tide Partners, a private investment firm. Prior to founding Spring Tide Partners in 2015, Ed was a managing partner of SPO Partners & Co. Ed received his B.A. from Williams College and his M.B.A. from Stanford. He is involved in several non-profit organizations including serving on the board of the American Federation for Children and the BASIC Fund, an organization providing scholarships to students from low-income families. He is a former trustee of the San Francisco Foundation and a former board chair of the Stanford GSB Trust and San Francisco School Volunteers. Ed and his wife, Betsy, live in Ross along with their three daughters, two of whom are current students at MA.

Brittany Ouyang '07

Brittany graduated from Marin Academy in 2007 and went on to complete her BA at Vassar College and MBA at UC Irvine's Merage School of Business. She currently leads brand and influencer marketing for Cruise, an autonomous vehicle company. Prior to that, she worked in fashion and consumer products. She lives in Mill Valley with her husband Andrew and daughter Rowan and also serves on the MA Alumni Board.

Robert and his wife Kirstin Hoefer live in Belvedere with their three children Cole, Georgia ('21), and Sarah ('23). Since receiving his BS and MS in Management Science and Engineering from Stanford University, Robert has spent his entire career in the consumer products industry and is currently a partner at Encore Consumer Capital, a private equity investment firm which he co-founded. A California native, Robert enjoys running the trails of Marin County and spending time paddling and sailing on San Francisco Bay.

Brighid (she/her) graduated from Marin Academy in 1997 and was a member of the swim team and MAs first water polo team. She went on to swim at UCLA, compete in the 2000 US Olympic Trials, and graduate with a degree in Sociology. After a brief career in athletics, she earned her MA and PhD in Higher Education Administration from the University of Michigan. Brighid has been been advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives in athletics and higher education for more than 20 years. She has held positions at the NCAA, the Amateur Athletic Foundation of Los Angeles, Delaware County Community College, UCLA, University of Michigan, and Villanova University. Presently she serves as Associate Dean for Diversity and Inclusion at Princeton University. Brighid still swims several times per week and can’t wait to dive into the new MA pool.

Christina Kosmowski

Christina lives in Kentfield with her husband, Eron, and daughters Anja ’23 and Ali ’25. She received her undergraduate degree in Industrial Engineering from Northwestern University, where she was also captain of the varsity soccer team. Christina is currently CEO of LogicMonitor and holds board positions at Rapid7 (NASDAQ:RPD) and at the McCormick School of Engineering at Northwestern University. She previously served as chief customer officer at Slack and Salesforce, and was a founding partner of Operator Collective LP. In her spare time, Christina enjoys traveling with her family and continuing to pursue her love of soccer—through volunteering with Marin FC and playing in multiple women’s leagues in the Bay Area.

Isaura Resendiz

Isaura lives in Novato with her husband Arturo and son Cesar ‘23. Isaura has been working for North Marin Community Services, a non-profit community service agency for more than 20 years and has a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work. She assists some of the most vulnerable families to strengthen relationships, reduce barriers to care, connect them with critical resources, and participate in wraparound team meetings. Her support and effective case management has allowed many families in Marin to overcome personal crises and family emergencies. These interventions have created family stability and self-sufficiency.

While her days are filled with difficult stories of challenging circumstances, Isaura receives each family with an open-heart and her full attention, treating each family or individual with the utmost dignity, compassion and respect.

Isaura has also done contract work for Children & Family Services, and in 2015 became certified as a Visitation Supervisor through Marin County’s Superior Court.

Maxwell Hayman '05

Maxwell is a Marin Academy graduate, as are his siblings, Wyatt Hayman ’07 and Hailey Hayman ’10. After graduating from MA, Maxwell received his BA in Political Science from Northwestern University. Maxwell co-founded Rimeto, an enterprise software company acquired by Slack in 2020. He subsequently led a product team at Slack/Salesforce. Maxwell began his career at Boston Consulting Group and has since worked in the tech industry, including Facebook. He and his wife, Lindsay, live in Mill Valley with their young son.

Catarina and her husband, Andy Schwab, are residents of San Francisco and are the parents of Felicity ’26. Catarina attended Phillips Exeter Academy and received her Bachelor of Arts in History from Princeton University. She serves as Class President for her PEA Class of 1992 and as a Board Member for the Princeton Women’s Network of NorCal. Over her 25+ year career, Catarina has held investing, operating, and entrepreneurial roles across a variety of sectors, from investment banking, venture capital, technology, retail, nonprofit, and social impact. Most recently, she was the Co-Founder and Co-CEO of NPX. She is currently pursuing a lifelong dream of studying photography at the Academy of Art University and brainstorming ideas for future endeavors with her Summit Junto cohort. Catarina served on the Board of Trustees for the Katherine Delmar Burke School from 2016-2022.
