What happens when I dig deeper?
We all know examples of stressed-out out high schoolers who seem to constantly need to pull all-nighters to keep up with unrelenting homework, activities, and testing. Schools that emphasize test scores as the most important outcome of education help to create an environment where teachers feel pressured to “teach to the test” and students feel compelled to cram their brains full of unconnected facts.
At Marin Academy, our classrooms are the starting point of a journey of learning. Learning comes alive both during and after class through deep exploration and the time to absorb and consider ideas. We give students the permission to push the “pause” button so they can reflect deeply to make meaning of what’s been learned. This kind of deep thinking leads to genuine understanding and command of both subjects and the ideas that drive them.
