About Us
About Us
To provide middle school students from low-income families with exciting opportunities for academic, artistic and personal growth in order to equip them with the skills they need for success in high school, college and beyond.
To create a teaching environment that inspires creative and experiential classrooms for both novice and experienced teachers.
To expand and enrich the Marin Academy community by partnering with families and public schools from the greater San Rafael area.
Crossroads, a tuition-free program housed at Marin Academy, was created in 2001 in response to the challenges that many San Rafael children face today. Whether due to socio-economic status, limited access to information, immigrant status, large class sizes, and/or language barriers, these students are in need of individual attention and supplemental learning experiences that can help them fully realize their potential and develop in them a lifelong love for learning.
Recognizing the developmental impact of the middle school years, Crossroads identifies ambitious and motivated fifth graders attending San Rafael public schools to work with over the course of three years. During this time, the program aims to reinforce academic skills, build self-confidence, facilitate success in high school and college, and promote responsibility, integrity, and leadership.
The Crossroads program embodies Marin Academy's commitment to its neighboring communities in San Rafael.
Annual Fun Run Benefits Crossroads
Many thanks to the runners and walkers who registered for the 6th annual Crossroads
5K Fun Run & Walk on October 28, 2007, and to the wonderful volunteers who made the run possible.
The weather was beautiful, and the views from the top of the hill were fantastic.
The food and drink were plentiful, the prizes were a hit, and the band was great.
One hundred percent of the event’s proceeds benefit the Crossroads Program,
thanks to Bank of Marin, our community partner and corporate sponsor. Support
of the Fun Run goes a long way to provide quality instruction and materials
to our middle schoolers.
We want to extend special thanks to the event’s co-chairs, Erin Elliott, Judi Shils, and Barry Spitz, and to Vicki Buder, MA’s Special Events Coordinator, who also contributed hugely to the event’s success.
The top three male runners were Brian Pilcher, father of Natty Pilcher ’10, who came in just under 20 minutes, Wayne Patton, and Michael Podolin ’08, a member of MA’s cross country team. Top female runners were Christine Lopez, Lucy McCullogh ’11, a member of MA’s cross country team, and Moriah Buckley ’96. For the complete results, please CLICK HERE.
