WORKING AT MARIN ACADEMY
Mission Statement
Marin Academy asks every individual to think, question, and create in an environment of encouragement and compassion, and challenges each person to accept the responsibilities posed by education in a democratic society.
Working at Marin Academy is a rewarding and invigorating experience. Whether teaching, coaching, or staffing an office, adults at MA work with students and colleagues who are smart and hard-working and who care deeply about the school.
We are a co-educational independent high school of 400 students and approximately 50 faculty. The course curriculum is varied and deep, and our teachers enjoy teaching students at all grade levels. Our co-curricular program is incredibly strong with opportunities abounding in athletics, the arts, student-led groups, and outings. In addition we have a week of "Minicourse" in March where students and teachers take a week away from the classroom to focus on experiential learning in a non-traditional setting.
Full-time teachers teach four classes, advise a group of students, commit to a school "service" (work with a student club, lead an initiative on campus, etc.), and take an active role in the life of the school. Our teachers are passionate about their subject areas and about working with high school students. Marin Academy's block schedule (classes meet every other day for 80 minutes) requires teachers to be creative and thoughtful in pedagogy and content. Professional development opportunities are readily available and include the E.E. Ford Fellowship program (summer), graduate school support, and access to many Bay area conferences and workshops.
The school is a vibrant and diverse community, and students and teachers alike continue to work towards the furthering of an inclusive and supportive school. The school's Diversity Council is designed to make issues of justice and equity the responsibility of all adults in the MA community and its membership includes board members, the head of school, administrators, and teachers. Marin Academy is an equal opportunity employer and people of color and women are encouraged to apply for open positions. Salary and benefits are very competitive.
