Affording a Marin Academy Education

Tuition at Marin Academy for the 2007-2008 school year is $29,245. There are additional charges that cover books and other incidental expenses that average from $600 - $900 per year.

Marin Academy is committed to making our high school experience available to deserving students and families at all income levels, and we recognize that a Marin Academy education is a significant investment in your child's future. The benefits of this investment are both immediate and long-term, in the day-to-day and in the preparation for an enriching and rewarding life after high school. There are a variety of ways to help make a Marin Academy education affordable.

Financial Aid

Our financial aid program has one primary purpose: to provide access to a Marin Academy education to qualified students who could not otherwise attend for financial reasons. For the 2007-2008 school year, more than $1,700,000 in need-based financial aid will be distributed among 21 percent of our students in the form of partial or full tuition grants. Recipients represent a wide range of income levels. Awards are made to families whose ability to pay school costs is extremely limited as well as to those of somewhat substantial means who may require a more modest award. We encourage interested applicants to apply to Marin Academy regardless of their ability to pay full tuition.

All information regarding financial assistance is kept strictly confidential during the application process as well as during the four years that a student attends Marin Academy. To get more detailed information including a list of frequently asked questions and all of the required financial aid forms, please request our Financial Aid Packet by contacting the Admissions Office.

Educational Loans

Private student loans are specialized loans competitively priced for education financing. Important aspects of an education loan are the repayment period, the interest rate, and the amount a family may borrow. Loans through third party lenders can help families manage tuition by spreading payments over as much as 20 years. Some lenders provide generous loan limits, allowing families to borrow the total cost of an education less any other financial aid received. Keybank (www.key.com/educate) and PrepGATE (www.prepgate.com) are two possible sources for loans. Additional information about loans and other sources of funding is available through our Office of Admissions, and at the National Association of Independent Schools web site, www.nais.org.

Additional Sources

It has been our experience that grandparents, other relatives, and close friends are often called upon - and welcome the opportunity - to provide financial help towards an education at Marin Academy. Families may be in the possession of highly appreciated assets, a portion of which can be leveraged to meet the cost of tuition. There are organizations that provide tuition assistance to families, and although these providers are limited in number, they tend to be local and offer funding based on need. Employers, churches, and other civic organizations in your community are good places to inquire.

Putting It All Together

Talk to any of our alumni and you will learn how attending Marin Academy was a profoundly transformative experience. Making that experience financially feasible will take careful planning and for many families considerable sacrifice. It may be beneficial to look at a combination of options when formulating a strategy for paying tuition such as payment plans, loans, and if qualified, financial aid. Families representing a wide range of incomes may qualify for financial aid. If you would like assistance in identifying the options available for financing a Marin Academy education, please don't hesitate to contact Dan Babior, the Director of Admissions and Financial Aid.
