The tuition is set each year by the Board of Trustees, generally in February. Tuition increases over the past five year period have averaged approximately 8 percent per year with the majority of the increases addressing the compensation of our fine faculty. To make the Marin Academy experience open to as many families as possible, there is a shortfall between the actual operating expenses of a Marin Academy education and the tuition dollars received per student. This year that shortfall is approximately $3,235 or 13% of tuition.
To close this tuition gap, we turn to current and past parents, alumni, trustees, faculty, friends, foundations, and corporations for financial support. The voluntary assistance that parents provide to the Annual Fund is pivotal to its success. We are proud to say that 93 percent of our current parents gave to the Annual Fund last year with gifts ranging from $5 to over $15,000. All levels of support are greatly appreciated. Family support takes additional forms as well. Parents host education evenings, help and plan our annual Spring Fundraiser, assist with school mailings, and serve the school in a variety of other ways that lend vital support to so many of our endeavors.
